What My Magazines Say About Me

The vast majority judge one another by one's clothing, the music in their iPod, the vehicle they drive, job occupation and their myspace and facebook page. But, what about what a person chooses to read?

So, I was intrigued by an essay question proposing what would others perceive about the person I am solely based upon on what magazines I read?

Now that you are done thinking what your magazines say about you, let's get back to me-my magazines.I made a list of all the periodicals that I am subscribed to, or read on a regular basis.

National Geographic is a magazine highly focused on geography, cartography and exploration of our world.

Cosmopolitan is a magazine for the fast-pace modern woman focusing on issues such as relationships, fashion, successful and/or career goal women, make-up and stereotypes that women still face today.

Diabetes Forecast keeps me up to date on the latest in stem-cell research, the most recent diabetic kits/tools, upcoming fundraising events, and stories from other diabetics like myself.

TIME Magazine is a world renowned periodical that features top news, latest technology and current events from around the world.

Transworld Motocross features news, pictures, race results, upcoming races and latest gear and dirt bikes from around the world.

Personally, I feel that magazines might be the most accurate way to describe myself. My clothes or music would definitely lead to more misconceptions.

So, for kicks let's say I am on an online dating website and I have to enter my profile based only on what these magazines would say about me.

I am a well-rounded young women. I enjoy the outdoors, especially animals and nature. I am well educated, career oriented and knowledgeable about the issues in our world today.

I enjoy racing, making it apparent that I enjoy leisure activities other than stereotypical "girlie stuff." Although, I do like to ear the latest fashion and be "up to par" with the rest of the women in my age category which would be 21-34.

When I think about it, I couldn't have said it better myself. I think that society judges people by materialistic items that have no depth and tell nothing about us. Maybe we should start "reading" in to who we are a little more.
